Los Angeles-born and Toronto-raised, Charles August is a product of both coasts. Discovering his love of music at a young age, he began playing upright bass in the fourth grade. Having completed his undergraduate degree in jazz performance at McGill University in 2016, August has toured across North America as a bass player and DJ for De’Wayne, opening for bands such as Set It Off and Chase Atlantic. While in school, August obtained mentorship from many noted film composers and songwriters at the prestigious Remote Control Productions (Hans Zimmer) in Los Angeles as a student intern.
Along with being an active performing and recording/session bass player, August also focuses on music production and composition. He has collaborated, recorded, performed, and written with some of the most notable artists in the industry, including The Kount, Hoskins, Beach Season, Grae, and Masego. His work has been featured in several Spotify editorial playlists and in the Netflix show Ginny and Georgia.
Having relocated to Austin, Texas, in the fall of 2024, Charles August continues to evolve as an artist, blending his diverse musical influences and passion for creative expression to craft unique, captivating soundscapes.
